In Dr Ashley Bloomfield's final press conference yesterday he shared some critical information on vaccination versus deaths:

“Preliminary research shows convincingly that in NZ:

• Getting boosted is one of the most important things you can do to reduce your risk of death from COVID, very consistent with the international evidence.

• People not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (ie they’ve had less than 2 doses) are 6 times more likely to die if they catch COVID-19 compared with someone who has had at least 1 booster dose.

• For people under 60y this risk is even higher, more than 13 times greater for those who are unvaccinated (less than 2 doses) compared with someone who is boosted

• For those who were between 20y and 60y we have estimated around half of those deaths could have been avoided if all those people had been boosted.”This research will be released publicly in the coming weeks.”
