As New Zealand’s COVID-19 vaccination programme ramps up, Primary Care will have an increasing role in vaccination roll out. It is anticipated more healthcare professionals with prescribing rights will now be likely to administer the vaccine.

With this in mind, we have reviewed our education available for Health Professionals and have made the decision to merge the COVID-19 education for Prescriber Health Professionals with the COVID-19 authorised vaccinator education course.

This is because the COVID-19 Health Professionals Prescribers Course was designed to provide key information about the COVID-19 vaccine to enable people to answer common concerns and questions raised by patients. However, it does not include detailed information on the preparation and administration of the Comirnaty (Pfizer/BioNTech) vaccine.

The COVID-19 Health Professionals Prescribers Course will be available on IMAC’s Learning Management System until 31 July 2021. From 1 August 2021, healthcare professionals with prescribing rights are recommended to complete the COVID-19 Vaccinator (Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine) education course.
