This course combines online learning and a face-to-face tutorial.* The FLVFC will provide nurses, pharmacists and paramedics with the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively administer vaccines on the National Immunisation Schedule, as appropriate within their scope of practice. It is an essential requirement for authorisation or approval as a vaccinator. Additional requirements to attain authorisation are outlined in the Immunisation Handbook, Appendix 4.
Both the online study (approximately 14–15 hours of self-paced learning) and the two-part assessment (with a total duration of 1 hour and 40 minutes) must be completed prior to attending the four hour practical workshop.
You must:
Note: Midwives and medical doctors, as prescribers, need not be authorised to administer vaccines. These professional groups may still enrol in this course to gain greater understanding of vaccines and immunisation service delivery in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
The assessment is a set of 80 multiple choice questions, delivered in two parts, assessing safety and general vaccine knowledge.
On completion, you can print out a certificate as evidence of learning.
This assessment is undertaken following successful completion of the online learning, practical workshop and course assessment, and is a requirement for attaining authorised vaccinator or pharmacist status.
More information is provided about this in the course.
Some nurses may have employer requirements to complete a higher level of Resuscitation training.
Doctors will require higher-level certification to maintain their professional development requirements.
Paramedics do not typically require CPR refreshers.
