This coupon only course provides New Zealand defence force medics with the theory and an introduction to the skills to become competent vaccinators, including processes that underpin vaccinator practice as outlined in the Immunisation Handbook.

This course provides information on immunisation principles, vaccine administration, and safety protocols. It supports effective communication with families and enables vaccinators to engage in informed conversations about vaccination. It equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively and safely administer vaccines, to provide best practice care.

  • Immunisation and vaccine-preventable diseases.
  • The immune system.
  • National Immunisation Schedule.
  • NZDF Baseline and Enhanced Immunisation Programme
  • Types and composition of vaccines.
  • Vaccine safety.
  • Storage and handling of vaccines.
  • Improving immunisation coverage.
  • Informed consent and immunisation communication.
  • Vaccine administration.

This course will take approximately 20 hours to complete, including the assessment.
