This Vaccinator Foundation Course – Bridging (VBC) is specifically for provisionally authorised vaccinators who wish to become fully authorised vaccinators or pharmacist vaccinators. It builds on Provisional Vaccinator knowledge and skills, bridging the gap between Provisional and full authorisation.


As a provisionally authorised vaccinator, this course will build on your knowledge and skills to enable you to safely and effectively administer vaccines on the National Immunisation Schedule, as appropriate within your scope of practice. It is an essential requirement for authorisation or approval as a vaccinator. Prior to attending a 4-hour practical session, you must complete the online learning which will take 10-12 hours.

• Current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
• Provisional authorisation as granted by the Ministry of Health
• Registered/enrolled nurses, pharmacists & midwives are eligible professions for the VBC
• Knowledge and familiarity with the current Immunisation Handbook
• Please revise the following Immunisation Handbook sections:
• Introduction
• Chapter 1: General immunisation principles
• Chapter 2: Processes for safe immunisation
• Appendices 3 and 4
• Immunisation standards for vaccinators and guidelines for organisations offering immunisation services
• Authorisation of vaccinators and criteria for pharmacist vaccinators.

Course structure

Online 10-12 hours pre-course work, followed by 4 hours practical training and online theory assessment to be completed after the course. Workplace practice under standing order or prescription, followed by successful completion of clinical assessment.
