Information on BCG vaccination supply in New Zealand

BCG vaccine supply has been restored to New Zealand after a longstanding global BCG vaccine shortage. District Health Board (DHB) BCG vaccination clinics can now order BCG vaccine and arrange immunisation clinics.

Midwives should resume screening babies for referral to DHB BCG vacicnation clinics.

The Ministry of Health does not recommend a catch-up programme for older children who met the eligibility criteria over the period the BCG vaccine was unavailable. However, parents may contact BCG clinics to discuss this.
